Best Time to Visit Nepal by Season

The weather patterns are largely predictable. There are four seasons in Nepal:

  • Spring from March to May
  • Summer from June to August
  • Autumn from September to November
  • Winter from December to February. The monsoon season lasts from late June to mid-September, while it is relatively dry the rest of the year.

What to Pack for Nepal

There are largely no clothing restrictions in Nepal and you can wear what is most comfortable and weather appropriate. Choosing to be formal or casual is entirely up to you. Traveling in mountainous regions means experiencing a wide range of temperatures across 24 hours. During the day it can be quite warm, whereas at night temperatures can drop dramatically. Crossing over a pass requires an extra layer of clothing just for an hour or two. Lightweight and tropical clothes with umbrellas are advised from June to August. Between October and March, lightweight clothes with a coat for the evenings and warm clothing for the mountainous areas are recommended.

Nepal Travel Guide
You might have to take domestic flights during your exploration of Nepal. The country’s mountainous terrain and unpredictable weather can result in challenging flying conditions, and there have been more incidents here than in other countries. Unfortunately, Nepal also has a poor air safety record, which means that flying within the country is a known risk.

The EU included all Nepalese-registered airlines on the EU banned list in 2013, which bars them from flying in EU airspace. While no Nepalese-registered airlines currently fly within the EU, this ban was implemented to highlight the risk of flying in Nepal to EU citizens. Nepal’s airlines are unlikely to be members of any internationally recognized safety audit systems. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Nepal does not operate to the same standards as those of Western nations.

In response to these concerns, independent air safety auditors visit Nepal annually on behalf of Enchanting Travels to assess the suitability of available carriers. Only those carriers that are approved by this audit are used by us. In the unlikely event of an emergency situation, such as a medical evacuation where helicopters may be needed, we also have a list of approved helicopters.

If any concerns arise regarding the safety of an approved airline, it is immediately removed from our list. The airline is reinstated only after our air safety auditors have confirmed that it meets acceptable safety standards.
