As a responsible travel company, we want to contribute positively to the communities we engage with and the world at large. As a step towards achieving greater sustainability, we aim to minimize CO2 emissions from any trip you take with us while simultaneously investing in carbon mitigation measures.
Minimize CO2 Emissions from Your Trip
We aim to minimize the carbon dioxide emissions of your trip through carefully balancing your comfort with the environmental implications. You have the opportunity of choosing climate-conscious, responsible, and sustainable options when you travel with us.
Sustainable Transportation: We are happy to suggest sustainable transportation such as trains, which are not only environment-friendly but also a romantic and relaxing way to discover a region. Furthermore, we avoid flights where ground transportation offers a pleasant alternative.
Sustainable Activities: We offer sustainable activities such as walking tours, and take you beyond the tourist trails both for authentic experiences and to avoid “over-tourism”.
Sustainable Hotels: We proactively support sustainable hotels. From waste disposal to using sustainable energy and supporting local communities and conservation projects, many of our partner accommodations have received awards for their responsible practices.
Taking Climate Action by Supporting Healthy Oceans
As part of our commitment to climate and nature action, we’ve joined our sister companies across the Travelopia Group* to partner with Blue Marine Foundation.
Our objective is to help conserve the stunning coastlines and marine life that enrich your holidays and restore ocean ecosystems that are vital in tackling climate change. Together with our sister travel companies, we intend to donate at least 1 million over the next 3 years, with an aim to support the conservation and restoration of 7,000 hectares of vital marine ecosystems through seven global projects.
From the Mediterranean to the Caribbean, Kenya to Indonesia, these protected “blue carbon ecosystems” have the potential to remove and store thousands of tonnes of carbon every year. They will also help protect a rich diversity of coastal and underwater wildlife, including endangered species.
Our support will also enable the training and employment of local communities in marine conservation, helping ensure these beautiful places are preserved for generations.
Through a combination of conservation, ecosystem restoration, research and community engagement, each project seeks to address the climate and biodiversity crisis in different ways, empowering and engaging local communities:
Greece – A blue carbon approach to saving Greek seas
Formentera – Safeguarding the future of ancient seagrass meadows
Kenya – Restoring Mida-Creek’s mangrove forests
The Caribbean – Restoring blue carbon habitats and protecting unique marine ecosystems
Indonesia – Community-led restoration of Indonesia’s extraordinary blue forests
Philippines – Restoring abandoned aquaculture ponds to productive mangrove forests
The Maldives – Restoring mangroves and seagrass for climate mitigation and resilience
The day I learned that we have an opportunity at our workplace to be Responsible Travel Champions, I was super excited. For me, this was another way to give back to the society, spread happiness, and make our world a place of harmony. We all need a push and someone to motivate us to make a change – that is exactly what I am hoping to do through my role as a Responsible Travel Champion.
