Language

The official language of Egypt is Arabic. Although most Egyptians speak one of several vernacular Arab dialects, English is widely used and known across the country, especially in tourist locations like Cairo, Sharm El Sheikh and Luxor. With our expert guides accompanying you, moreover, you will hardly face any communication problems during your Egypt vacation.

Cash and Currency

Egypt’s official currency is the Egyptian Pound or EGP (E£ or ج. م in Arabic). The EGP is usually broken down into smaller denominations known as qirsh or millimes. The good news is that the US Dollar is widely accepted across the country, especially in Cairo and other tourist destinations, and you can easily use it instead of the Egyptian Pound. Credit cards are widely accepted in cities and tourist areas. However, you will likely want some cash for small purchases, tipping and shopping in more rural areas.

Currency restrictions for tourists in Egypt:
Maximum currency allowed for entry: Less than $10,000
Maximum currency allowed for exit: Less than $10,000

Porter at airport: 3 per person
Driver (for transfers): 3 per person per transfer
Hotel porters: 3 per person per check-in or check-out
Restaurant: 3 per person per meal
Driver (for tours): 7 per person per day
Tour guide: 10 per person per day

Health Information

Currently, your upcoming Egypt vacation does not require any health regulations or vaccinations for entry into the country.

Although there are adequate pharmacies and healthcare facilities in the larger cities, it is advisable to carry your own medication and any other medicines that you may need during your vacation. We recommend bringing medications for stomach upset as a precaution. Especially in remote locations, such as deserts and rural areas, you may have limited access to pharmacies and healthcare centers.

Waterborne, foodborne, insect-borne and other infectious diseases are prevalent. Drink only boiled or bottled water and avoid eating any raw or undercooked food. Ensure your accommodation is insect-proof, and keep an insect repellent handy with you all times.

Dress Code

We advise visitors to dress modestly and rather conservatively especially in the less visited parts of the country. Egypt is an Islamic country and what is considered appropriate in terms of clothing (especially for women) is conservative by western standards. Foreigners are not expected to adopt the local dress code, but doing so is considered a sign of respect, and is typically warmly reciprocated. It will also help you to avoid unwanted attention.

Getting Around

The most popular transportation in Egypt is a cruise on the largest river in Africa, the Nile. River cruises along the Nile allow you to visit the most popular highlights of the country. Road transfers and domestic flights are also other popular modes of transport in the country.

We have a very high quality standard for transportation and hotels for our guests. We don’t offer any hotels under four stars, and book our guests in the rooms with the best views. When you arrive at the airport, you will immediately be met by your guide, who will help you through customs and immigration, handle your bags and escort you to your private vehicle.

Our destination experts are happy to advise you further on local customs in each destination on your Egypt vacation itinerary. Contact us today for the latest information and travel tips for your journey ahead.
