Although there are adequate pharmacies and healthcare facilities in the larger cities, it is advisable to carry your own medication and any other medicines that you may need during your vacation. Waterborne, foodborne, insect-borne and other infectious diseases are prevalent. Drink only boiled or bottled water and avoid eating any raw or undercooked food. Ensure your accommodation is insect-proof, and keep an insect repellent handy with you all times.
We advise visitors to dress modestly and rather conservatively especially in the less visited parts of the country. Egypt is an Islamic country and what is considered appropriate in terms of clothing (especially for women) is conservative by western standards. Foreigners are not expected to adopt the local dress code, but doing so is considered a sign of respect, and is typically warmly reciprocated. It will also help you to avoid unwanted attention.
