Annapurna region in Nepal

Jomsom is a small but pretty town located at a height of 2,760m in the Kali Gandaki Valley of Mid-Western Nepal. It is the district headquarters of Mustang and is often called the Gateway to Upper Mustang. The town is split down the middle by the Kali Gandaki Gorge, the deepest in the world, through which the Kali Gandaki River flows.

Kagbeni village in Nepal is located at the confluence of two rivers, Kali Gandaki and Jhong, at an altitude of 2,800m in Lower Mustang. Part of the Annapurna Circuit Trek route, its name is a mix of two languages, ‘Kag,’ meaning block or center in Tibetan, and ‘Beni’, which means meeting of two rivers, in Nepali.

Lumbini in Nepal is home to the whitewashed Maya Devi Temple – a testament to the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha), as well as ancient Emperor Asoka’s inscribed pillar.
