All our global teams are committed to giving back to the communities in which they live and work. Here are a few recent highlights. Responsible Travel SOUL FOOD We have a daily Share Your Tiffin scheme in Bangalore as sharing food promotes social cohesion and avoids food waste. Our team in Nairobi has started a kitchen garden for growing vegetables, and look forward to their first crop being cooked for a tasty team lunch! SNUG SLEEP Our team in Buenos Aires supports Fundación Pan de Vida Argentina, an NGO that provides food, clothing and shelter to people living in the street. We save empty milk cartons that in turn are re-purposed into thermic sleeping bags. CLEAN SCENE In Delhi and Nairobi our teams now have Responsible Travel shirts and heavy-duty gloves that they wear for collecting waste in local parks and streets during frequent team walks after lunch. It’s a delight when passers-by also join in to help. WATER WISE Reusable Enchanting Travels branded water bottles are now being offered in our vehicles in a growing number of our destinations. With support from your chauffeur, you can refill these with safe drinking water throughout your journey and avoid plastic waste. CAREER BREAKS We have run our internship program in Kenya for over eight years, providing life and work skills development opportunities to more than 20 bright young adults from disadvantaged backgrounds. Many of our interns end up as fully-fledged team members. Travel can be a force for good. It can boost local economies and support communities, or even promote conservation to a wider audience. enchantingtravels.com/responsible-travel 46 Sarika Chopra, Responsible Travel Champion & Asia Trip Coordination Manager, shares how our Delhi team is working with Salaam Balaak, an NGO that provides a sensitive and caring environment for street and working children in India’s capital. We love to support organizations that are truly shaping a more inclusive world around us. If we find a group that inspires us, we make it our mission to find a way to collaborate with them. The numerous charitable organizations we have connected with and support provide another motivation for us to continue delivering trips of a lifetime to our guests. We arranged an outing and lunch in a local restaurant with a group of young people from Salaam Balaak. In such a short span of time, it was amazing how quickly everyone, including those members of our team who were apprehensive about the outing, bonded with these youngsters. The youngsters were so open about their experiences. Many of them had ended up in Delhi not speaking a word of English or Hindi and so wound up living on the streets and engaged in illegal activities. They were destined for a life of crime. Yet Salaam Balaak has clearly helped them turn their lives around. What struck me, more than anything, is that in spite of everything, they all have such spirit. They are all so candid and honest. They all have dreams. They put their energy into so many different activities and are so hungry to learn and grow. Ever since the outing, true friendships have been formed. I feel both responsible and proud to be supporting these young individuals. One of the teenagers told me he was struggling with sample papers for his national exams. As my own teenage son has already been through the same curriculum, I shared his email address and they are now emailing one another regularly. Two of the individuals have been taken on as paid interns in our Delhi office with clear roles and responsibilities. If they succeed, we will gladly take them on as permanent members of our team.
